The John O. Dodson family began making pottery together in the 1970s. The Mud Dabbers' name was inspired by the dirt dabbers, insects who build their nests from mud, that found the family's drying pots the perfect source of building supplies. The smiling Mud Dabber logo, drawn by son John at age 12, symbolizes the joy and happiness the family hopes will be yours in the sharing of their craft.

RiverLink is a regional non-profit spearheading the economic and environmental revitalization of the French Broad River and its tributaries as a place to work, live and play. Since 1987 we have engaged in simultaneous efforts to address water quality concerns throughout the French Broad River basin, expand public opportunities for access and recreation, and spearheaded the economic revitalization of Asheville's dilapidated riverfront district. Area Attractions
The North Carolina Arboretum amid a 434-acre public garden located within the Bent Creek Experimental Forest of the Pisgah National Forest. Surrounded by lush folds of the botanically diverse Southern Appalachian Mountains, The North Carolina Arboretum is adjacent to the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, at Milepost 393, and is nestled in one of the most beautiful natural settings in America. Established in 1986 by the General Assembly as an affiliate of the University of North Carolina, the Arboretum was founded nearly a century after Frederick Law Olmsted, the 'Father of American Landscape Architecture', first envisioned such an institution near Asheville as part of his legacy to the Biltmore Estate.
The Biltmore Estate - Building Biltmore was, at the time, one of the largest undertakings in the history of American residential architecture and the results were astounding. Over a six-year period, an entire community of craftsmen worked to build the country's premier home. The estate boasted its own brick factory, woodworking shop, and a three-mile railway spur for transporting materials to the site.
Because of its unique geography, Transylvania County, The Land of Waterfalls, has approximately 250 beautiful cascades within just a few square miles. Ranging in size from the thunderous 400 foot drop of Whitewater Falls, the highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains, to the tranquil beauty of Moore Cove, which you can walk behind, the diversity of waterfalls in Transylvania County truly defies belief.
The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest was created when the Veterans of the Foreign Wars asked the government to set aside a fitting stand of trees to serve as a living memorial to Joyce Kilmer, who was killed in action during World War I. Although Kilmer was both a soldier and a poet, he is most remembered for his poetry about common, beautiful things in nature. Kilmer's best known poem is "Trees".
The Blowing Rock is an immense cliff 4,000 feet above sea level, overhanging Johns River Gorge 3,000 feet below. The phenomenon is so called because the rocky walls of the gorge form a flume through which the northwest wind sweeps with such force that it returns light objects cast over the void. The current of air flowing upward from The Rock prompted the Ripley's "Believe-It-Or-Not" cartoon about "the only place in the world where snow falls upside down."
Towering 5,946 feet above northwest North Carolina, Grandfather Mountain is operated as a scenic travel attraction and is one of the world’s most environmentally diverse nature preserves. Marvel at 360-degree views of mountain ridge after mountain ridge cascading to the horizon and let our knowledgeable staff help you find your own perfect mountain adventure.
